Building with Books!

Improving high school eligibility for students at 23 primary schools

WHY TEXTBOOKS
Kenya's primary schools receive 40¢ per child per term for textbooks and class readers. Total government support for schools is $1.30 per child. The cost of one math book is $6.50. The problem is in the math. Our annual textbook contribution is directed to the grade level priorities partner schools have identified.

WHAT WE DO

To improve students' performance and high school eligibility, we collaborate with 23 partner primary schools to acquire needed classroom resources.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES in 23 partner schools
  • KCPE performance scores improve 26-50%.
  • School enrollment increases 60-86%.
  • Girls' high school eligibility reaches 100%  - from 43% in 2009.

"What KSHP does for us no organization has ever done - not even the government. We are given 50 shillings (50 cents) per child for textbooks, which is too little. We thank you always!"  said Kogembo Primary head teacher.
